THE SUN WATCHES WHAT I DO, BUT THE MOON KNOWS ALL MY SECRETS.  [J.M. WONDERLAND]

If you’ve known me a while, you know that I love creating series’ – transforming a single image or idea into a multitude of styles. (ie; my pencil point series52 weeks of peace series and plethora of p’s). Something takes over, compelling endless variations to come bubbling forth.

Within my fine art there are similar signs of repetitive theming (pears, pots, low horizon lines…) but nothing that qualified as a series until I started paying attention to the moon – or more specifically, how the moon affected my work.

I wondered: If the moon impacts tides and moods, might some of this moon energy affect how we create? Was it the astrological alignment of the moon that had me painting loose and easy on Monday, tight and controlled on Tuesday? The Moon Series was my first – unscientific but fun – experiment to answer those questions. My only rule was that it be an abstract landscape with a horizon line of some kind. (For the curious, this experiement did indeed shine a light on my style tendencies. Turns out that I paint most tidily when the moon is transiting Aries, Virgo and Libra, and more freely during Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.)

There are three completed Moon Series’ to date, shown below. Each painting is assigned the zodiac sign that the moon was traveling through at the time of creation (12 zodiac signs / 12 paintings), and are shown in astrological order from "Moon in Aries" to the last one "Moon in Pisces." Reach out to me if you'd like to commission a set of your own. :)
